Current Weight: 270.2 lbs.
Weekly Change: –1 lb.
Total Weight Lost: 48 lbs.

Good afternoon, friends!

Well, I finally did it — I hit my 15% target! I have now lost a total of 48 lbs., which is exactly 0.2 lbs. more than I needed to lose to do so! These past couple of weeks have been challenging, so it’s definitely a nice feeling to finally be over this hurdle.

I’m still stuck in the 270s, however, and it sort of feels like I’m never going to get out of here! I almost made it today, but, alas, it just wasn’t meant to be. Hopefully, with any luck, I’ll break 270 next week, and then I can finally put these numbers behind me for good.

I’m also just 2 lbs. away from my big 50 lb. loss, and it seems like I’ve been dancing around that goal for several weeks now. I’m so close, yet still so far away! I had hoped to be down 50 lbs. by the end of January, yet here we are, headed towards the last week of February, and I’m still not there!

It would be amazing if I could drop those stubborn 2 lbs. before February is through, but if not, I’m going to make sure that March is my month! 😀

The second leg of the 1,000 Extra Steps Challenge started this past Monday, February 16, 2015, and I hope you’ve all been giving it your best! I’ll tell you a little about my week here in just a bit, but first I’d like to throw out some cumulative stats I pulled together from the first leg of the challenge!

The first leg of the 1,000 Extra Steps Challenge ran from January 12, 2015 to February 12, 2015. Between Bobby, Alison, Deborah, Brittany, and myself, we walked a total of 834,517 steps, which works out to about 395.13 miles. The Appalachian Trail (which is something my best friend and I are planning to hike one day) is 2,168.1 miles long. If Bobby, Alison, Deborah, Brittany, and I had each walked a portion of the trail, we’d have made it about 1/5 of the way through—give or take about 30 miles.

Jo, Amber, and Aubrie also walked for this challenge, but I’m not sure of their final tally. With that said, though, I know for sure that with the added effort of those ladies, our numbers would’ve far surpassed those 30 miles!

Isn’t that incredible?!

Also, between Bobby, Alison, Deborah, and I, we managed to lose a cumulative 31.4 lbs., too!

Great job, guys! I sincerely appreciate the fact that all of you chose to do this with me! Look at what we accomplished!

For the second leg of the challenge, I adjusted my daily step goal upwards from 5K a day to 7K a day.

Here’s how I’ve done so far:

My knee started bothering me on Tuesday (I have a preexisting issue that’s the result of an accident I had 8 years ago), and I decided that I was going to take it easy so that I wouldn’t seriously injure (re-injure) myself. I fell into bed at 8PM and did not wake again until the early hours of Wednesday morning, so my step goal obviously suffered.

Other than that, though, I’ve been doing well, and I hope you guys are, too!

Yesterday, I traveled a short ways with my mother to another city to go grocery shopping. The local grocery store near my home has been seriously lacking lately, so I figured I’d give another one a try, and I’m so glad that I did!

I found so many Weight Watcher-friendly products: Sargento Reduced-Fat String Cheese, Yoplait Greek 100 Whips, Better Oats Old Fashioned Style Blueberry Muffin Oatmeal with Flax, Gluten-Free Chex Oatmeal, Skinny Cow Snickerdoodle Ice Cream Sandwiches, Flatouts, Thomas’ Bagel Thins (BOGO, no less!), Weight Watchers Coffee Cake and Lemon Snack Cakes, and fruits and veggies galore!

It was great! I was so excited to finally find a store that carried the products I’ve been searching for. I also saw a ton of Weight Watchers frozen foods (like chicken burgers and chicken tenders) that I plan to buy next time, because there definitely will be a next time! This is where I plan to shop from now on!

We’ve got a big snowstorm moving in tonight that’s supposed to bring a lot of snow our way over the next several days, so I have zero plans of leaving my house this weekend.

I hope that those of you experiencing cold and snowy weather are planning to stay indoors, too, and if not, then stay safe and stay warm!

I wish you all an absolutely wonderful week.

Eat well. Be well.

    1. We’ll get there eventually! The weight took time to pile on, so it’ll also take time to come off! We just have to keep reminding ourselves of that and keep pushing forward. We can do it! ❤

  1. You’re doing really great, Rachael. Congratulations on hitting that 15%. I knew it wouldn’t take long. Just in the short time that I’ve known you, you’ve done so well. Don’t worry about the 270-pound mark or the 50-pound mark, because one thing you do know with absolute certainty is that if you stick to what you’ve been doing you’ll hit them. You can’t be certain exactly which week, but that’s okay. It’s coming soon, we can all see that. And the secret, I think, is simply to keep doing what you’ve been doing. Don’t let any weekly result knock you off your stride, just keep doing what you know has already been so successful. There will always be some variation in weekly results, but roll with those and keep going and your targets will continue to fall.

You’ve lost a massive 48 pounds already. Shout that out! You must look and feel so much better than you did, physically and mentally. You’ve already proved that you can do this. I know you will.

By the way, my best ever loss over the last 13 years was 50 pounds back in 2002. I’ve never been past that and I’ve tried many times. You’re about to pass that already and I hope that brings some perspective, and some well deserved pride. I’m going to do it too, I already know that. Not today, but it’s coming.

You keep going, and never give up!

    1. Thank you so much!

I am proud of myself, and I do know that this is working! Sometimes it’s just slow going… I have to remember that! 😉

I do feel and look better! I was looking at some old pictures the other day, and the weight loss is really noticeable now. It’s crazy to see how far I’ve come since September! And I’ve been gradually feeling better and better–physically–as the days pass on. It’s easier to move and do things and I don’t get winded quite as easily. It’s so great to finally feel my age! At 22, I should not have ever felt like there were things that I couldn’t do! I’m glad that I’m finally starting to feel young! 😀

You will surpass your personal best soon, too! I know it’s right around the corner! You’re less than 20 lbs. away from a more than 50 lb. loss! So congratulations to you, too! We’ll both get there in time! ❤

    1. I’m glad you decided to walk with me, Bobby! It’s been a great help! 🙂

And I have faith in us! Let’s hope it’s a good week! We both weigh-in on Fridays, so we’ll know in 3 days! I’m feeling good about it! 😀

  2. Great job, Rach! I am right there with you — I feel like the big 5-0 has been staring me in the face for the past couple of months, and it feels like it is taking forever to get there, but we will!

ps: Skinny Cow Snickerdoodle sandwiches are fantastic! Enjoy!

    1. Thank you so much! ❤

I think 50 is a hard goal to hit for a lot of people, but you're right — we WILL get there! Our hard work and determination will eventually pay off! I'm hoping for a good loss this week! 😀

And yes! They are SO GOOD! They're going to be a staple from now on, I think! Ha!

  3. Rachel, I’m so proud of you. “Keep on, keepin on. It works when you work it.” This is something we say at every Celebrate Recovery meeting. You should celebrate your recovery as well. We are all guilty of looking at “the goal” and stressing that we aren’t there get. (Me too), but we should also look at how far we have come and say, “Yea! Look at the miracle of this victory! Woo-hoo! More to come. Victory ahead, I’m coming through!”
Yes, you are victorious! We all are, have been, and wll be. It’s going to be a great “losing weight” year.
I’m looking forward to hearing about y’all’s successes. I’m looking forward to achieving the WW goal given to me in 1974. Victory is just ahead for all of us.
I did well with the step challenge. Hubby laughs at me, when I walk around in circles in the house to meet those last few steps to 5k. There was one day when this grandma feel asleep in her chair and didn’t meet goal. (Sigh) but one setback does not make failure. Now marching on to victory!
Gods love to you all, thank you for allowing me to be included in your group. I am honored.
