Good afternoon, friends!

This week I had a very minor loss: less than half of a pound — the exact same loss as the Friday before last. I am a little disappointed, but, thankfully, life goes on. Obesity is not going to win this time — I’m just going to keep moving right along and, hopefully, I’ll see a bigger loss next week.

Nothing about my week was drastically different, but in thinking about it a little, I did realize that a couple of scenarios could possibly be responsible for another minuscule loss: 1) I changed up my exercise routine just a bit (which I’ll talk a little more about when I update you on the 1,000 extra steps challenge); 2) I went out for dinner on Wednesday night at a mom and pop shop and was forced to guesstimate my points usage, and while I did the best that I could, I certainly could’ve accidentally over done it if my estimations were wrong; and 3) the Red Tide moved in this morning, and though it never causes me to gain weight, it could very well be responsible for a less-than-normal loss.

So yeah. Those are my best guesses. Honestly, though, I’m not going to dwell too much on why this weigh-in was less than spectacular. The number on the scale didn’t go up, and that, in and of itself, is a victory. I just want the weight to come off, and as long as that continues to happen, then I’m happy.

My activity level has been awesome this week even though it started off a bit rocky. In all honesty, my activity level has been awesome since I started the 1,000 extra steps challenge on January 12th. I’ve been more consistently active these past couple of weeks than I have been over the past year+ — truthfully. I was very sedentary prior to joining Weight Watchers last September, and even at the beginning of my weight loss journey I was still pretty sedentary. These days I’m really making an effort to get up and move, though, and I feel really good about that!

Here’s a detailed look at how the entire challenge has gone for me thus far:

photophotoAs you can see, I’ve managed to meet/surpass my 5K a day goal each day of the challenge except for one (Friday, January 16th). I’m very, very proud of myself for doing so well with this challenge, and I’m also very thankful to each and every one of you, too, because you all sincerely do keep me on target. I do so much better and achieve so much more when other folks come along for the ride, so I know that much of my success can be attributed to my little community of blogging walkers! You guys rock! 😀

After injuring my arm earlier this week (I’m totally fine, by the way — some ibuprofen, ice, an Ace bandage, and a few days of rest fixed it right up!), I decided to cool it for a little with the arm workouts. Without that extra added movement, though, I was coming up a bit short in the steps/activity department, so I came up with a plan to compensate.

I made a couple of fun playlists on my iPhone, and then I decided to just go for it — I decided I was just going to dance around my house no matter how silly it looked! So for the past several days, I’ve stopped every hour or two (when I’m home, that is) and chosen 2 or 3 songs off of the playlists that are between 3 and 5 minutes in length, and I dance through the chosen songs without stopping.

Let me tell you… When you’re 270-someodd pounds, dancing for 12-15 minutes straight is tiring! But it’s also great exercise! My heart rate really gets going, and I end up pretty sweaty and out of breath by the time I’m through. I’ve really just thrown myself into the dancing, and since no one aside from my puppy is around to see me, I don’t really care what I look like flailing about, which means I end up getting in a great workout!

I try to do this 2 or 3 times a day at the very least now, and it really racks up my step count!

It also wears me out and leaves my muscles feeling nice and sore (the good kind of sore!).

Last night as I was dancing in my bedroom, I looked in the mirror and just smiled because 44.4 lbs. ago, I’d never have been able to dance. I just didn’t have the physical ability to do that then, and it made me feel so good to realize what my body is capable of these days.

I feel so good!

My eating was pretty decent this week. I suppose there were times that I could’ve made better choices (like when I ate an 8P+ powdered grocery store donut simply because I had the points to do so or when I knew that my Dunkin Donuts Large Carmel Latte Lite wasn’t actually a Lite because I definitely know the difference between fake sugar and real sugar but I just drank it anyway), I still did OK. I stayed within my daily point allowance almost every day, and I didn’t use any of my Active Points. I dipped into my weeklies and used 5 of them spread out over the course of the week, which isn’t that bad.

Overall, I made good choices.

Like I said above, I did go out to eat on Wednesday night, but I really did my best to make healthy choices. It was my aunt’s 49th birthday, and my folks wanted to take her, her husband, and my cousin out to dinner, and they invited me along. We went to a really delicious little mom and pop Mexican restaurant, so there wasn’t any nutritional information available for me to check and use to pre-plan, but I did budget all day prior to going, and I saved 21P+ to use at the restaurant.

I had 5 homemade corn tortilla chips dipped in the house-made salsa, and then I ordered lemon water instead of alcohol. For my main dish, I chose an order (4) of chicken al carbon tacos. They were street taco style, and typically those kinds of tacos run about 4P+ each at commercial restaurants. When I put “chicken taco” into the search bar of my Weight Watchers app, though, it said 5P+ each, so I just went with the higher estimation. Best case scenario, the tacos cost me 16P+ total, and (hopefully) the worst case scenario is that they cost me 20P+ total, which is what I tracked.

Compared to the fried disasters everyone else chose, I think I made a pretty wise decision.

So that’s what’s going on.

I hope you all have had a wonderful week and that your step challenge is going well!

I wish you all a wonderful upcoming week, too.

Eat well. Be well.

    1. Thanks so much for stopping by my blog and dropping me a line! I appreciate it! I’ll head over to your blog and give you a follow + see what you’re up to!

I challenged my followers to add 1,000 extra steps to their typical daily count for 31 days (running from Jan. 12 — Feb. 12). I am hoping that at least some folks would like to continue on with this once these 31 days pass, so perhaps you can join us in about two weeks’ time!

This month it’s been my goal to get in AT LEAST 5,000 steps per day. Perhaps in February I’ll up it to 7K a day since I seem to be hovering around 6K these days. I’ll write more about this within the next week or so.

If you’re interested in joining (which I so hope you are!) look out for my post(s) about it! No specialized fancy equipment is needed to participate! 🙂

      1. I’m starting my “Move More” month in February and like the idea of setting a step target. Have just got a Fitbit and have been using it for a little while to get a ‘base line’. Hope you don’t mind if I join in a little early. 🙂

  1. You are doing great, setting an example for the rest of us.
Mexican food is the most absolute dangerous food for me. In the old days I would gain three pounds from one night with Mexican food.
Been going to chiropractor, I ll blog about it later, but my 40 years of obesity has resulted in some damage. Sigh. Good news, today he said start back walking again, just don’t overdo. I told him that he was the only man I have ever paid to beat me up. Got to go back 3 more x next week . But I am better , yea

    1. I like Mexican food a lot, but I can usually control myself. Italian food is my weakness! Throw some pasta or pizza or garlic bread in front of me + I’m out for the count! Ha!

I actually did OK at the Mexican restaurant this time, though! I did have to push the chips + salsa away, though. If I’d just let them continue to sit right there in front of me, I’d have just mindlessly eaten them.

I also had a tiny bit of a problem when they brought out the sopapillas to celebrate my aunt’s birthday. They looked SO GOOD + they were piping hot, fresh out of the frier. I was the only one at the table who didn’t reach for one. I watched everyone eat them + soak them in honey… it was torture! Ha! My cousin ate I don’t know how many of them!

I did break down + ask my mom for one tiny bite of hers, but it was so minuscule of a bite that I didn’t track it, + I really did just stop at that one bite. I didn’t sneak anything!

So, overall, it was a success. I also avoided the margaritas, so I truthfully feel that I did reasonably well!

I am glad the chiropractor is getting your back back in working order! 😉 I know that all of us have likely done damage to our bodies; we weren’t built to carry hundreds of pounds of excess weight!

I am so glad that you’re feeling better, though, + that you can get back to walking again! Just don’t push yourself too much this time around! ❤

      1. I’m proud of you for your victory at the Mexican restaurant. Victory, victory, let the dance begin. Victory is here. Every time we say no to temptation it makes you stronger and victory shows up to celebrate. Yea for victory.
Thank you for your kind words. I will start walking again. I will have victory as well

    1. Thank you! –0.4 isn’t great, but it’s not the worst either 😉

Great minds think alike! Isn’t that SUCH a good way to get your steps in? Sometimes I can get over 1K in just one 15 minute go. I love it!

You’re the step master, though! There’s no competition between the two of us! Ha! 😉

This might sound stupid (so forgive me if it does) but do you know that your blog doesn’t allow comments? I’ve found myself wanting to write to you after reading several of your posts, but I can’t! I just wanted to mention it incase it wasn’t done on purpose (though it probably is!). I’m sorry if you’ve disabled comments on purpose and I’ve just told you something pointless! I just wanted to check. 😉

      1. 🙂

I had no idea my blog didn’t allow comments! This is my first time using it again in well over a year, and I didn’t even think about my previous settings. I’ll try to change it, though for some reason it isn’t showing the option to allow comments under settings and discussion -_- Oh, well. I’ll figure it out.

Hope you have a great weekend!

    1. No, not too shabby, but not all that great, either! Ha!

I was hoping to hit my 15% target by the end of Jan., but oh well! February will be my month! I lost 7.2 lbs. over the course of Jan., so it was a pretty modest month compared to the others! But again, that’s OK! 🙂

  3. Congrats on the weight loss! As Bobby said, celebrate it, it’s great!

I do something very similar when it comes to dancing, though… I must admit, it’s mostly to mechanical music like trance/hardstyle/house etc – there just really is nothing better out there for what I do as far as music goes… I mean, that music was originally created to be mindlessly bounced to!

They usually have a really good bass pumping, every beat is a step taken and my heels won’t touch the ground at all during it, so it’s basically doing small jumps with each step on the ball of the foot (think that’s the name for it in English?) – harsh on the ankles though – if they hurt, time to stop and do something else!

There’s very good long remixes in existence and you can just pound the pavement in a manner of speaking, close your eyes and get lost into the music and once the remix ends, you know you’re done. There are also pauses in the music where there’s no bass, so I use that time to ‘rest’ by walking normally 🙂

Started tracking my steps a few days ago with a pedometer and been constant now (for 2 whole days, 3 once this is one is over) at +10k each day, yay!

    1. Thank you!

That sounds like quite the workout! 🙂

Unfortunately, I can’t do that sort of thing because my knee will, undoubtedly, dislocate. It doesn’t take much for that to happen on a NORMAL day — seriously, it’s happened before if I simply stand “wrong.” A slight jarring can cause it to just pop right out, so even the sort of dancing that I’m doing really worries me. I wear a knee brace, but still… I’m taking a pretty big chance doing it, and if my knee starts to feel “loose,” I stop IMMEDIATELY. It’s a pain (literally and figuratively). :/

No running, no jumping, no squats, and no bracing all of my weight on my right leg — those are the rules. It definitely makes finding workouts a little difficult! I had quite a bit of physical therapy several years ago, and I spent a lot of time on the treadmill and the stationary bike and at the weights. Those are all pretty safe choices.

I’m really hoping that my knee is going to get better as I continue to lose more weight. However, numerous doctors and surgeons have told me that it will never truly be “fixed.” I have to have a total knee replacement surgery in order to even come close to really fixing it, and at my age, that’s not a good choice. Knee replacements only last about 30 years — at 22, that means I’d need at least 2 in my lifetime (if I’m lucky to have a lengthy life, that is), and that’s not a prudent situation to put myself in.

So yeah. I’m just going to have to get creative and take some risks! 😉

And I’m so excited that you’re tracking your steps now! You should join the next round of the step challenge! 😀
